Daniel Reed has not lost any set so far

The single and double matches began at the European Universities Table Tennis Championship on Saturday. In the last evening matches it was decided who will fight for the medals on the last day.

 

In the men´s singles Batuham Ulucak, Gustav Ericson, Ocean Belrose and Ondrej Bajger as seeded players didn´t advance among eight best. Daniel Reed from the University of Nottingham has been doing very well not losing a set so far. In the third round he knocked out nr. 7 of the tournament Turkish Ulucak, in the round of 16 he beated Finn Otto Tennilä from Haaga-Helia University of Applied Sciences, both matches he won easily 3:0. The biggest drama was performed between Pioter Chodorski and Swede Gustaf Ericson from Stockholm School of Economics. The Polish table tennis player was finally happy winning 12:10 in the fifth set.

 

In the battle for quartifinal the players from Technical University of Ostrava Roman Rezetka and Ondrej Bajger didn´t succeed. The third seeded player was beated by Boguslaw Koszykov.

In the women´s single the trio of gold medalist from the team competition Anna Blazhko, Ekaterina Guseva and Svetlana Mokhnacheva (Kazan Innovative University) advanced without any problem. The round of 16 brought even several five sets battles. In two of them the players from hosting Palacký University Olomouc Aneta Kucerova and Karolina Mynarova suceeded. Kucerova defeated a player of Chinese origin Liu Haoyu winning the last set 11:8. She was happy after the match. "When I saw the draw and knew there is a Chinese player already in the second round, I wasn´t enthusiastic. I ´m very happy to win. It was a hard match. Today I could at least forget about the results from the team competition but sometimes things can´t be influenced.“ 

 

Her team mate from Palacký University Olomouc Karolina Mynarova was also successful. She did well with the Polish defender Kinga Falarz (Jan (Dlugosz University in Czestochowa) thanks to improved performace in the second half of the match. “It was the worst match aginst defence I´ve ever played. Mainly becuase me myself complicated the match. At the beginning I made many mistakes but fortunatelly I succeded to turn the match gradually. I´m happy that I got better my score from the team competition a little,“ said Karolina Mynarova who is for the first time at the European Universities Table Tennis Championship.
