The premiere EUC in Ostrava memories

The European Universities Championships in Table Tennis has started to write its history in 2007 in the Czech republic. The first championship was hosted by Ostrava where the young representatives of Russia were the most successful. We can find well known names on the  winners list of EUC 2007. The men´s singles was won by Kirill Skachkov, the women´s singles was dominated by Tatiana Mikhailova.

Also the Czech table tennis women players fighted themselves to the winners podium in Ostrava. The best of them Dana Hadacova (Cechova) gained directly two medals. In the singles she got to the final, in the team event she gained bronze together with Iva Kubisova and Martina Cechovska.

How does successful Czech national team player Dana Cechova-Hadacova remember the participation in Ostrava? „When commemorating Ostrava 2007 I call to mind it can even not be true to have been already 10 years. But now seriously. It was a very nice event. The student events are different from those top ones. People talk more, communicate, it is more relaxed and there is not such a rivalry and desire for results,“ says Dana Cechova-Hadacova. „But it doesn´t mean the students competitions have not their quality. For example that year in Ostrava very good Russian women took part. I remember that in the singles semifinal I defeated Anna Tichomirovova who later became a stable support of Russian national team and participated even at the Olympic Games in London.“

European Universities Championship in Table Tennis gradually became a favourite international event of univesity athletes. And not only that. „We as students established such a good position within EUSA (European University Sports Association) thanks to the participation at EUC in Ostrava and two years later we could even play at the desired Universiade. Special thanks go to Mr. Ratajský who takes care of university table tennis for many years. Both Czech and European Universities Championships are his events. We wouldn´t have started at Universiades without them,“ adds the native from Hodonín who has besides others collected two bronze medals from teams competitions at European Championships in 2009 and 2013.
